At Sea – The Daily Practice of Swimming

Produced for a mid-career retrospective at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2010, At Sea records the artist Gary Coyle's unique practice – his photographic studies of the Irish Sea are taken during daily ritualistic swims at the Forty Foot bathing place in Sandycove, Co. Dublin. The book is an edited document of over two thousand swims and associated seascapes – photographs and drawings. Interspersed with commentary and collected ephemera (maps, notebooks, pens and swim matts) the book provides a unique insight into this eccentric yet meditative art practice.
