Nine Lives (2015)

Nine Lives is a showcase exhibition of architecture from nine practices working on the island of Ireland, curated by Emmett Scanlon. Following a run in The Tank at the Design Museum, London, Nine Lives was exhibited at the National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny, during August and September 2015. This second iteration emerged from the New Horizon_architecture from Ireland initiative, a flagship project of Irish Design 2015, curated by Nathalie Weadick and Raymund Ryan. Through innovative displays of photography, models and illustration, Nine Lives reveals the ongoing life of these building and the inseparability of human living from the design process. The angular wordmark references architectural forms found in the buildings on display. This is contrasted with hand drawn illustration of inhabitants and possessions, which were used across printed materials and applied to unexpected areas throughout the gallery space. Invitations, fliers, advertisements and digital assets were created to promote the exhibition, which received nationwide press coverage. Nine Lives was opened by Conor Skehan, Chair of the National Housing Agency, at a launch event during Kilkenny Arts Festival, August 2015.
