Personal (Stencil)

Commenced in 2010, Personal (Stencil) is an ongoing collaboration with artist Gavin Murphy. The geometrically constructed modular typeface was designed and developed specifically for use in his text-based gallery installations.

The typeface is directly influenced by the experimental 'universal' typefaces produced by the artists/designers of the inter-war years (Herbert Bayer, Jan Tschichold, Joseph Albers and Paul Renner), whose ideals underpinned the design philosophies of the Modernist movement in Europe.

Personal (Stencil) is based on a set of simple but rigorously applied design principles (with some deviations/flourishes where appropriate). It employs a combination of square and rounded elements within a 3:10 master grid to construct a working Latin/Western alphabet.
