Taking as its departure point The Medium is the Massage, Marshall McLuhan’s groundbreaking 1967 book on the influence of technology on culture, The Age of Earthquakes, by authors Shumon Basar, Douglas Coupland and Hans Ulrich Obrist, extends the analysis to today, touring a world redefined by the Internet, decoding and explaining what it calls the ‘extreme present’, using typography as well as images and illustrations from over 30 contemporary artists. The book was published in paperback in the UK and US (with different covers for both territories), as well as translated into a German hardback edition .
